We don’t own a Wii or Nintendo but I do let my kids play a computer game, Jumpstart.

Jumpstart is a 3-D online gaming world for kids ages 3 – 12 that is big time fun and believe it or not, includes learning, too in math, reading, and critical thinking.

My kids would play it for hours if I let them. (I don’t.) Best of all, they love playing next to each other. Then, they can let their Jumpies (avatars) interact with each other online.  Speaking of Jumpies, AJ explains about them, “You get to decide her skin color, her eyes, her face, her body, their name, you can change the outfit whenever you want. I always go to Storyland to change the outfit because they have the most outfits and all the cool outfits and all the cool headwear and cool skin colors, too – tiger stripes, purple, or zebra stripes.”

The girls, who are now 6 and 9-years old, both love the Posieden’s Hangout and the Squid’s Lair best of all. Squids Lair, according to AJ, “is a dancing place where there’s a VIP lounge with dancing, fish tanks, games, and dance-offs.”

JJ enthuses, “I don’t like Jumpstart, I love Jumpstart! It’s so fun, you get to go in lots of lands and you can create your own Jumpie, girl or boy. You can meet with other people and make your own buddies, too. You can make your own neighborhood.”

She really does love it.

AJ adds, “You can buy all these different kind of rides – like bouncy balls and stuff. I decided to get a police car. But, I do have two horses, one pirate ship car, I have a skateboard and I ride around on it. You can do math games and there’s this lava game – they give you a variety of answers and you have to answer the right one or you get into the lava.”

She’s talking about Math Blaster which is for kids ages 6-12, at MathBlaster.com. Like in Jumpstart, you create avatars and explore various lands to unlock games or videos. My kids aren’t huge math fans so it’s not their first choice – but it’s still cool. For a math game.

“In Main Street, they have these really really cool fun zones, different ones every month,” explains AJ. “There was this giant picnic one once. There was this soda can and it was flowing out soda you could slide down it. Right now there’s this pirate one.”

JJ jumps in to add, “They also have this sport place you can pick your own sport out of their choices and learn things and do math to play the game.”

The girls keep talking to me about the game but I think I’ll stop typing now. You get the gist, right? It’s fun. Very fun.
