You can make your own silly putty — even for Christmas! Whip some up and put it in a baggie and you have a stocking stuffer or sensory activity for the car.
I’m calling it Christmas silly putty because it’s green (Grinch green actually) but it’s fun for any occasion!
DIY Christmas Silly Putty
We more or less used the Borax recipe found on Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom but you can also make your silly putty with Sta-Flo Liquid Starch like Coffee Cups and Crayons does or with corn starch like Living Well Mom does. Borax is NOT edible and should be used with adult supervision.
4 oz. glue (not washable)
4 oz. water
4 oz warm water
1 tsp Borax
Mix glue and water with glitter and food coloring. Stir.
(In retrospect, we should have added more glitter and I just realized we totally forgot the water. Whoops!)
Mix 1 tsp of Borax in another 4 oz of warm water. Add to your mixture.
I couldn’t get all the water to absorb but it did get nice and gloppy right away.
Voila! This Christmas silly putty is the weirdest substance — it stretches and breaks in a bouncy way.
It’s great for kids who need more sensory stimulation.
