Fun Christmas Writing Prompts for Kids
1. Letter to Santa
Write a letter to Santa. Either write a list of what you want OR use your best persuasive skills to convince Santa that you should get what you ask for. In other words, ask for the thing and give three good reasons why you should get it.
Even non-writers can do this by drawing or cutting out pictures from the newspaper ads to glue onto the letter.
Find many letters to Santa templates here.
2. Holiday Alphabet Book
Fold 14 pieces of paper in half to make a book. Staple. Write the letters of the alphabet on each page. Give your child Christmas books to look through and find pictures that start with each letter. Draw the picture and write the word (with help) on the appropriate letter’s page.
Alternatively, find Christmas words here and an ABC Coloring Book printable here.

8. Christmas Blank Book
Wrap an 8.5 x 11″ piece of cardstock with holiday wrapping paper. Glue.
Fold and insert several colorful pages.
Poke three small holes in the fold of the book – bottom, middle, and top. I used an awl but you could use a nail or screwdriver.
Get a needle and thread with embroidery thread or yarn. Start in the middle on the outside. Thread through the middle hole to inside. Then pull to the top hole and pull through. Now your needle and thread are on the outside of the book. Pull thread and needle to the bottom hole.
Bring thread and needle through the bottom hole and up to the middle. Pull through that middle hole and back out. Tie off on the outside.
