Encourage a love of writing
23 Apr | No Comments »I want your child to love writing. I want to show how fun words and writing can be.
We are born loving play. We delight in the silly, the ordinary, and wonder when we are young. It is this gift of youth, the perspective we so often lose as adults, that makes children amazing writers. The eyes of a child are the eyes of a poet.
All children can write, they just need to be shown how to capture their view of the world with words.
How? How does one learn to swim? A good swimming teacher and a lot of practice.
Writers learn to write from good writing teachers and a lot of practice. I am a good writing teacher. I show writing just as a swimming teacher shows strokes.
Again, how? I write “out loud” – I share my thinking as I process and write. My process of creating becomes a model of how a writer thinks, changes her mind, selects words, decides on the content, and so forth.
My writing classes are for 7 – 12 year olds in the Denver area. June and July’s schedules are under the page links as are the class descriptions. (Silly Stories, Poetry Walks, How to write picture books, etc.) Imagination Soup Registration Forms here.
