How to Write a List Poem

Kids can easily write a list poem using their powers of observation. This is a GREAT way to start kids on writing poems. Especially if children are intimidated by poetry.

First, have them look around and write a list of words down the side of their paper.

1. Write a list of nouns that you see.

2. Then add verbs to all those things.  What are those things doing?

Grass grows

Trees whisper

Flowers bathe

Voila!

3. OR you can add adjectives in front of the nouns like this:

golden grass

lavender flowers

speedy ants
