I partnered with @Scholastic for a fun early chapter book giveaway for 6 to 8 year olds: Hero Dog! (Hilde Cracks the Case #1) by Hilde Lysiak with Matthew Lysiak.
Hero Dog (Hilde Cracks the Case #1) is a mystery story available now about a writer named Hilde and her sister, Izzy. They want to help their neighbors find who is stealing baked goods from people’s homes. Hilde writes the neighborhood online newspaper so she hopes she can solve this case and write about it for the Orange Street News. The sisters observe carefully. Finally, the clues and a dog with a good nose help them crack the case.
Scholastic Branches Beginning Chapter Book with a 10-Year Old Author
The book’s author, Hilde Kate Lysiak, modeled the book’s story on her real life. She, too, is a reporter and publisher of the Orange Street News having written and published hundreds of stories in her hometown of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. And, even cooler, she’s a 10-year old kid! (Readers of her books will be excited to know this amazing fact.) Hopefully Hilde will inspire children to do their own journalistic writing.
In fact, you can download a classroom guide to help develop your child’s journalism and writing skills.
Hero Dog joins Scholastic’s Branches line of books, specifically designed for newly independent readers, typically kids ages 5 to 8. The Branches books foster a love of reading in your kids and give them the tools they need to become life-long readers. The books all feature easy-to-read text, simple plot lines, plenty of context cues, cliffhanger chapter endings, and purposeful illustrations (on every page!) that aid in reading comprehension.
We love the Branches book series. They’re motivating and easy to read. The Hilde books make a great addition to the series. AND, we think they’ll get your kids interested in doing their own writing, too.
Above, my young neighbor is getting excited about news and events in our own neighborhood after reading Hilde Cracks the Case.
