I bought a great inexpensive Brother sewing machine for us a few years ago and it’s been fabulous. (Under $100!!) I can hem and fix small things and after I taught the kids, now they can use it, too.
The book, I Can Make Dolls’ Clothes, contains patterns for Barbie dolls.
Use an old Barbie (we have a headless variety) to be your mannequin. My girls wanted it to be more authentic so they painted theirs gold. Looks good, right?
For material, we recommend using remnants from the fabric store or old clothes your kids have grown out of.
The doll clothes book asks you to use tracing paper to trace the patterns. Then you use that to cut out the pattern on fabric.
Doing this helps kids figure out how to make their own patterns.
It’s pretty easy to do.
Sew it up and you have a cute doll outfit.
