Recommended Educational Apps

Since I last posted on educational apps, the selection of quality children’s eBooks for the iPad has grown bigger and better – which is a good thing, don’t you think? Here are my recommendations for Fall 2011 of educational apps and books for the iPad. (And, a giveaway, too.)

Educational Apps

From easy to very challenging, this is an addictive educationl puzzle app to solve.

Faces iMake
Create funny faces with random objects like dominoes and bananas – my kids love making wild faces!

Spot the Dot
JJ loves this fun game app of visual discrimination to find the different colored dots.

Super Why
Just like the television show but more interactive.

Roxie’s Doors
An interactive search and find educationl app – engaging!

Math Puppy
Great math practice app with two game options.

I like to think the strategy makes this app educational – amazing graphics and lots of fun!

Highlights Hidden Pictures
Who doesn’t love Highlights Hidden Pictures?

Children’s eBooks for iPad

Bartleby’s Book of Buttons Vol. 1
An EXCELLENT book my kids love requiring reading, thinking, and responding.

Madera and Figaro Save the Day
An interactive monkey and frog adventure story.

The Gwaii – 3D Comic Book
Wow! Impressive 3D animation and an engaging plot makes this comic book adventure totally absorbing by the story. Part I is FREE. SEE BELOW FOR GIVEAWAY for parts II and III.

The Berenstain Bears’ Bedtime Battle
Just like all the Bears books, this teaches a valuable lesson to kids.

Blue Hat Green Hat
We loved this as a board book and love it as an eBook, too!

Grame Base’s interactive search and find eBook. Mixed reviews from my kids.

Excellent! JJ loves this – and plays it over and over again. (not that it’s annoying or anything!) Great for learning letter sounds.

There’s a Wocket in My Pocket
You can’t go wrong when there are yeps on the steps . . .

Penelope The Purple Pirate
Girls will especially love Penelope’s imaginative pirate adventure with pirate Penelope and her animal friends. Talk Like a Pirate Day is coming up September 18. Visit Penelope The Purple Pirate’s Facebook Page or website to learn more about giveaways, contests, downloads, and videos.

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
Probably the best art and story plot of all the book for iPad – breathtaking!

Weird But True
AJ loves these books and think the iPad version is just as cool.

Insert your picture and become the star of the story! My kids think these books are awesome.

The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin
Spookley, the Square Pumpkin, saves the round pumpkins in this fantastically narrated story.

Little Critter – Just Me & Mom
I love Little Critter, don’t you?

Jingle All the Way (Free)
You can add a Hallmark Storybuddy to this beautiful story.

This Too Shall Pass
Another WOW! A 3D animated interactive story with film-calibre illustrations, music and amazing narrative – it’s incredible!

Thanks for the list. I have most of these for my daughter and I will definitely get the rest. One nice app missing from the list is Butterfly Math. My 5 years old really enjoys playing with it and little does she realize that she is learning math as well. The best part I like is the coloring reward game which keeps he motivated.
