Make a snack, write the recipe

Trail mix (or Gorp) is one of my favorite snacks which might explain a few things . . .  But, it’s good fats, right?  And filling, especially from protein sources like almonds or cashews. Make this snack with your kids, then help your kids write down the recipe that they invented.

Shop the grocery store bulk food section and select your ingredients . . .

granola

nuts

chocolate chips

banana chips

pretzels

raisins

m&ms

marshmallows

anything you like really

Set out these ingredients in individual bowls. Have your child fill a large bowl or bag.  How many scoops from the raisins?  How about pretzels?  Keep track for your recipe later.

Now, to eat and enjoy!

While you eat, start to write the recipe.

Illustrate.

Very good post. I’ve found your site via Yahoo and I’m really glad about the information you provide in your posts. Btw your sites layout is really broken on the Kmelon browser. Would be really great if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the great work!

  2. My girls love to cook. My oldest daughter loves to write, as well. She has combined these passions to write her own recipes.
Here is a post about her first recipe.

It was a fun experience. However, we did have to have a discussion about the fact that not all of her recipes can be so sugary. WOW! This one was definitely sugar overload!
