Not to mention, it gives they an early, positive experience with these important STEAM topics.
Introduce Preschoolers to STEAM with LEGO Education’s STEAM Park
As you may know, research shows that the number of STEAM jobs will increase by 14 percent between 2010 and 2020 – far faster than other job sectors. That’s why it’s important for kids to have a positive experience and foundation in the STEAM topics.
LEGO Education STEAM Park set is designed for children to work in small groups. This collaboration is an important piece of building communication and problem solving.
Each of the eight lesson in the teacher’s guide follow the LEGO Education 4C approach: connect (short stories), construct (building), contemplate (reflect and share), and continue (new challenges introduced/apply new knowledge). This curriculum also includes cause and effect relationships, making predictions and observations, problem solving, and creating representations. The activities start with a beginning level of difficulty and increase to intermediate and advanced to meet all kids’ needs.
Other STEAM topics include ramps, moving on water, probability, performing arts, gears, and chain reactions. You’ll be given lesson plans, idea cards, as well as printables such as templates, graphs, and inspiration photos.
As you can see from the card above, the brightly colored cards are appealing to kids. They’ll want to try the designs and won’t even know how much STEAM they’re learning.
One of the lesson plans is about ramps. When preschool children learn about ramps, they’ll build longer and higher ramps to see how far the car will go on the track they’ve built. A ramp like this one below . . .
Kids measure the distance using the number blocks on a track they’ve made. Finally, the preschoolers will graph the distances on a provided printable graph. How cool is that, right?!
Oh, and you’ll want to organize the DUPLO STEAM blocks into plastic bins. I got mine at the dollar store. It makes finding your blocks much easier.
The STEAM Park gives kids hands-on playful resources to explore, build, and learn about the world.
Don’t you love this kit?!
