Living in the Moment With a Buddha Board

Are you enjoying the summer’s moments? My two-week tech break wasn’t totally successful but, I did cut way back. And, in the process, I found more opportunities to be present with my kids, my husband, and my friends. To just breathe. Listen. Be.

Lately, I’ve been leaving my phone at home, turning off my emails during the day, spending the first moments of the morning with a cup of coffee and centering my thinking about the day. My goal is to be mindful, present (not distracted) in the day’s moments.

If you and your kids want to practice mindfulness, you might like the Buddha Board. The Buddha Board is a board you paint with water and a thick calligraphy paintbrush. Because it’s water, the image is temporary.

It might take some time to get used to — because you can’t cling to it, you can’t keep your art, it’s a moment of time and then it’s gone. Don’t freak out – try it. See what it brings up for you.

    My 12 year old has a Buddha board and loves it. It’s also perfect for practicing Chinese characters. She takes Chinese at her middle school.

    My other two kids are too hyper for it.
