I love how secret messages and codes get my kids writing! Maybe not paragraphs but the important thing is they are having fun and writing.
Which is why I fell in love with this wooden secret decoder disk from The Wooden Toy Shop on Etsy. We’ve been having tons of family fun laughs writing each other weird and silly notes — as you can see below.
This secret decoder disk uses a Caesar Cipher to encrypt and decrypt your secret messages which is the same technique Julias Caesar used to send important messages to his armies. Pretty neat, huh?
Sweepstakes
Mark, toy inventor, dad, and owner of the Wooden Toy Shop, wants an Imagination Soup winner to win a set of Secret Decoder Disks – two in a set – valued at $13.00. I think you all should enter, and if you don’t win — just go buy the disks because they’re so awesome! Don’t worry that there aren’t any left, email Mark and tell him what you want and I am sure he can take care of you. (Tell him I sent you!)
To enter for a chance to win, leave a comment below by December 1, 2011, midnight MST. Winner will be chosen at random. By entering this sweepstakes, you agree to Imagination Soup’s official sweepstake rules. No purchase necessary. Open to individuals in U.S. only, 18 years of age or older, void where prohibited.
Good luck, everyone!

I was thinking the same thing. I am hostiing a little boy book club of boys grades 1, 2 and 3. I am going to do The Unbreakable Code by Sara Hogeland Hunter which is an advanced picture book. For the activity, I think I am going to get these toys for each boy and have them break a code to find something …
Love this toy! Thanks! and would love to win one because I’ll need 4!

We love secret code wheels. This is a very nice toy. If you are a tiny bit adventurous, though, you can easily make one with your kids: http://spottybanana.net/2010/07/20/how-to-make-a-spys-secret-code-wheel/
