sponsored PostYour tween is at the age where she doesn’t want to do homework in the kitchen anymore. Which is exactly why my daughter, AJ, made her own special study space in our basement. Her design includes many elements you can adapt for any tween’s study area.

Create the Perfect Study Space for Your Tween

1. Start with a desk or table. Ours is an inexpensive IKEA table that previously had her LEGO buildings on it. (I was sad to see that transition!)

2. Hang cool lights and add a comfortable chair. My daughter choose these fun lantern lights from Target. The chair might be from Target, too. I can’t remember, it was another repurposed item — we actually didn’t buy anything for this project.

3. Consider adding a bulletin board or white board for keeping ideas and assignments organized. AJ prefers a white board to jot notes and erase when done.

4. Of course, make sure there are plenty of writing utensils available.

5. Add a set of Big Fat Notebooks to use as references. This five book sets give tweens the key concepts for Math, Science, American History, English Language Arts, and World History. Each book meets the Common Core State Standards as well as the Next Generation Science Standards, and state history standards, and are vetted by National and State Teacher of the Year Award–winning teachers.

6. Tweens probably want to add cute knick-knacks like my daughter did — a snow globe and Swedish horse statue. Also she wanted paper, ear buds, and lip gloss. Because, talk about essentials! 🙂

I highly suggest letting your tween figure it out how they want to design their space themselves. Ownership is so important at this age of independence.

As parents, we can provide support with finding supplies and clearing a space. Create the Perfect Study Space for Your Tween #BigFatNotebooks
