I Love Usborne Books For Beginning Readers

Usborne Books offer a great selection of early reader books for kindergartners and first graders who are learning to read. The quality is exceptional. Most books are sold by independent consultants either online or at a home party. It’s been years since I started buying them, even selling them for a short while, and I still appreciate them today as engaging, age-appropriate books for early readers.

I’ll start with the easiest and first books for learning to read, the Phonics Readers.

Then there is the Very First Reading Pack. (We don’t have this . . . yet – but it looks amazing!)

First Reading Level Four (book not shown)

Moving on to non-fiction for which I love the Beginners Nature books.
(We have most of these Beginning Nature books because AJ always preferred non-fiction and these books were perfect!)

If you’re looking for an early chapter book, try

or Young Reading Series Two

or one of my favorite books from the 2010 Cybils (I was a panelist for the Early Reader and Early Chapter books) – Anna Hibiscus.
It’s the most charming story about a little girl who lives in “Amazing Africa“. Read my review on Anna Hibiscus or read an excerpt. I think Anna Hibiscus is a must-own early chapter book and can’t recommend it enough. Kane-Miller is the publisher.

I love Usborne books too – we have the phonics readers and have found them excellent on several levels. There are one or two here that I didn’t know about and which would be great for my younger son.

This is a great review of some really great books!! I will add that the Very First Reading Set that you mentioned above is incredible!! I used it with my first grader last year. It is a progressive set that you work through at your child’s pace. Each book includes great information for parents on the focus of that book and comprehension and word games at the back of the book. There is also a website that provides word cards, word games, and worksheets for each of the books that you can download and print to help reinforce and strengthen your child’s developing reading skills. Highly recommended!! Thanks, Melissa, for the comprehensive review that I’m sure many parents will find helpful!

There books are awesom! We have a bunch in or collection because I sold them at one time, too. :) I love the non-fiction books and have used them when teaching my own children.

I am an Usborne Consultant for just this very reason. Their books are superb and I love them all. I enjoy knowing that I can get great books at a good price and that my children will read good content.

I love Usborne Books too!!! I used to be a consultant and since returning to full-time work have not been active. I really should get back into it at least for the books for my own children.
