The Best Father’s Day Gift (That Kids Can Make)

Okay, I realize I’m cutting it close to Father’s Day but I have the BEST Father’s Day gift idea ever. And, it’s easy, cheap, and — best of all — kids can make it!

A word collage!

Ever heard of Wordle? It’s a website where you enter in words and get a variety of word collages. So for Father’s Day it’s a great way to say all the reasons you love dad!

Of course, like all my good ideas, it wasn’t mine. It was my daughter’s, inspired by her end-of-the-year gift from her teacher. Yea for creative kids!

My girls thought of a list of words to describe daddy and made a DAD word collage.

After we did the collage, I thought of another idea to make it even cooler. . . have the kids make the same collage of words but on a canvas.

3D Letters – any kind will work

The kids debated where to place the words and preplanned the arrangement.
The words are bulletin board sticker letters. The “DAD” is chip board letters painted red.

If you want one more word art idea, try Taxedo. Theoretically, it uses photos to make word art collages. I haven’t tried it but it looks really fun. (The Taxedo create app takes forever to load but it does load eventually.)

Happy Father’s Day! What are your plans? What are your gifts? Do you think you’ll make this?

  1. What an awesome idea. I love this dad word collage. This is perfect for kids to create for their dad during this Fathers Day.

  2. Isn’t Wordle the best?!? I love it and use it all the time with my tween & teen clients in therapy! I have also used it to capture memories of a certain event (like a vacation or party). But I LOVE the idea of using it for a Father’s Day Present. And making a word collage on a canvas with 3D stickers is superb! Thanks so much for sharing this idea on this week’s Kids Co-Op linky!

  3. What a great idea! I recently learned that you can personalize an oven-proof coffee mug using a sharpie pen and then baking the cup in a 350 degree oven for 30 min to “set” the ink. I think we’re going to try to wordy some mugs next week.
