Time to play store!  Make it a learning experience by using pennies.

What you need:

Sticky notes for prices, store area, pretend cash register, something to sell, and pennies.

What to sell:

  • art supplies, we like to sell beads
  • toys
  • books
  • little sister’s stuff
  • rocks
  • dad’s ties
  • markers and crayons
  • coloring pages
  • Barbies
  • ANYTHING except your little sister

If everything is one penny then, the “customer” who buys more than one thing gets to practice addition.

1 + 1 + 1 = 3 for example

Older kids can raise the prices – how about 10 cents or 25 cents per item?

Hi Melissa!
Just visiting your site from MBC Funny Moms … I love it! This site is so valuable to moms. I can’t believe all the great tips and advice you give. My kids are, unfortunately, too old for a lot of these suggestions … I wish your blog had been around when mine were littler!

Also wanted to tell you there is a great writer’s conference in Colorado too. It is pricey and I don’t have the info handy (I’m not at home) but I’ll email you the website later. Truly, the best thing I ever did as a writer was go to a writer’s conference. God opened doors for me in four days that I couldn’t have opened in four years! ;0)

Melinda,

You’re so kind, thanks. I do hope it’s a helpful site.

Keep me posted on the conference, maybe I can panhandle enough money – do you think? :)

Melissa
