Middle Grade Books
Middle grade books are books for kids ages 9 to 12. It’s a relatively new term– something that didn’t exist when I started my teaching career but it helps differentiate books that are for upper elementary and middle school grades.
These books are usually about kids of the same age or just a few years above their readers. The topics in middle grade can be complex but don’t stray into the maturity of YA books. They have more of a character arc than a chapter book and are longer than a chapter book.
