I was even more surprised that she didn’t ask the girls about their experiences with contraception. In my experience as a teenager, that was a huge issue, and rightly so—only some people have STDs, but almost all straight couples are at risk of pregnancy. I found it pretty skewed toward the “white sorority girl with negligent parents” perspective and kind of a downer overall, but I appreciated how it made me think about what to tell my kids and reflect on my own positive experiences.

Well informed and attentive parents could minimize or eliminate many issues of anxiety, depression, and self-harming behaviors in their children before professional intervention is needed. This book appears to be a good place for parents to start addressing their children’s understanding of their sexuality not to mention personal values.
