I literally became a reader because of Nancy Drew. I read all of the Nancy Drew books in the school library. My friends even teased me about my fascination with these stories. After that I went on to Agatha Christie books and was always reading in any spare moment for the rest of my childhood.

As a reading tutor, I see a similar pattern with those whom I'm trying to help become fluent. If they can find a series that they enjoy, they will read and read it until they're fluent. It may even start a lifelong habit of reading.

Our oldest daughter became fluent after a month of reading many Magic Tree House books. She then read them all summer. For the next daughter, it was the Boxcar Children. Our youngest was into the fairy chapter books. I'm so thankful for authors like "Carolyn Keene" who craft engrossing series for developing readers especially!
