My children loved to read the Hank the Cowdog series. My youngest was a reluctant reader until she came across her first one we borrowed from the library. She couldn't get enough of Hank the Cowdog to the point where I found myself searching second hand bookstores when we exhausted what the library district had. I loved listening to the kids taking turns reading and giggling.

Thanks for all the ideas! Here is our favorite funny book at the moment. We stumbled upon the silly Treehouse books at a second hand store and my son loves them! The first book is the 13 Storey Treehouse and each book thereafter adds another 13 levels to the crazy construction! The series is loaded with sketched illustrations, fun labels, and lots of imagination. Repetition is used along with short text per page and only a little challenging vocabulary. My son is 8. Written by Andy Griffith's.

Pat,
No, it doesn't ring a bell but it sounds very funny. I hope that another reader of this blog can help you answer this question. Anyone??

These are great! I was hoping the book I have been looking for might be among these books.
I am looking for a book that I read to my grandsons back in 2010 when they were ages 6-8. I can't remember the title, but it seems the characters, young boys around age 8-10 lived in a country setting and were divided into two rival groups, one group more adventurous, the other more mischievous. The book was divided into chapters, and very funny. As I read it, I laughed as hard as my grandsons. In one chapter, the adventurous boys went to the lake and built themselves a submarine. My grandsons, now grown, do not remember the book, but do remember me reading to them and we all laughed a lot.
Can you help? Does any of this ring a bell as to a book title or author?
