The Lego book series along with Star Wars books are good for them too.

Some great books to get boys hooked on reading, are: Goosebumps series, Encyclopedia Brown, Roald Dahl, Treasure Island, White Fang, Huck Finn, and even comic books!

My boys are ages 8 and 11. They love action and adventure particularly if it is in a exotic location, the wilderness etc.

I read to them, let them learn to read at their own pace, I don’t limit their choices, I do make suggestions, but, hey, my second grader wants to read Harry Potter, I read it to them, they loved it! I also offer rewards, he wants to see the Diary of A Wimpy Kid movie? Ok, lets read the book first. He ended up reading the entire series. He wants to watch the upcoming Series of Unfortunate Events series on Netflix so we are doing a combination of listening to the audio books and reading them. Also, AUDIO BOOKS! I constantly have one on while doing housework…they see me reading before I go to bed, or when I have a chance to relax (ha ha ha like that happens much) seriously though, they see my love of reading and want to do it too.
