Jennifer, Unfortunately, I haven’t kept up with YA in recent years. And, you’re too right– many of the top titles have female protagonists. I can only think of We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, which has both male and female protagonists in it, and One of Us Is Lying with both. I’d give both 4/5 stars. Good luck!

My middle grade readers are aging up into teen books and I’m just not as familiar with teen titles! One of my boys is looking for teen murder mysteries with male main characters. He has read and enjoyed Blood in the Water, Silent Sister (YA), Stay Dead (YA), and Gaslit (which all have female main characters) and he is looking for similar mystery books that aren’t in the horror genre.

Maybe The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy? I haven’t read it in years but I remember it being funny. Beauty Queens is very funny, too. I’ll ask a few friends and get back to you with more titles.
