I teach 4th and do magic scrap with my kiddos. To make it more interesting for them I add a prize to whoever finds the magic scrap. I also changed it to magic item because sometimes I choose things that shouldn’t be thrown away, scissors, rulers, math manipulatives, etc.

If you still have blackboards, a lotion tissue wrapped around an eraser catches all the chalk dust and leaves the board super clean.

I use a Mr Clean magic eraser a my eraser for my white board. Works great and keeps the white board nice and white!

I love all the hacks! Except a word of caution when using Clorox or any disinfecting wipe. I have noticed the clear finish comes off the wite boards and then it is harder to clean ghost marks are left on the board. Also, after repeated uses it seemed to take the clear finish off and the board became porous in spots. I use baby wipes on the board to prevent this. (A sub came in and used the lysol wipes and now my boards are a mess.)

One of the problems with the solutions posted here are that they can strip the surface of the white board, especially the nail polish remover. You also want to consider that not any white board cleaner can be used, especially if you have a warranty. A great article that considers this can be found at the link below:
