Why, yes! Yes there is. (And just in time for the new Star Wars movie!)
Sphero’s Darkside Ollie is a belligerent and opinionated DARKSIDE robot –but that doesn’t mean you can’t control it from up to 100 feet away with apps on your Apple or Android device aka. iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch etc., and teach it new tricks. It can go up to 14 miles per hour! (That will get your cat and dog’s attention!)
App-Controlled Darkside Robot
My 13-year old thinks this is a blast! She only wishes the battery lasted longer than an hour. (First world problems. Geez.)
You can change Darkside Ollie’s tires for more traction (nubby tires!) and switch out hubcaps for looks.
Because of the shape, Darkside Ollie is easy to navigate — spin, turn, flip around objects inside or outside. It’s water resistant and shock proof even.
When you name Ollie your own name, which you can, be warned: it won’t like just any name. You’ll have to think of one that’s suitably dark and devious.
Make you own Ollie obstacle course so you can practice controlling the robot. It’s all fun and games but also educational — just download the programming apps: MacroLab and OrbBasic.
Oh, good news. The apps for Ollie are all free. Which is good because Ollie is a bit pricey — but I’m pretty sure there are sales happening right now if you think this would be a good investment for your kiddo. As I’m writing this, it’s $99 on Amazon and on the Sphero site, too.
ALL Sphero apps for Apple devices including Ollie, Draw N’ Drive, MacroLab, and OrbBasic.
