Affiliate Links The Educator’s Spin On It bloggers, Kim Vij and Amanda Boyarshinov just published a great book for young learners called 100 Fun and Easy Learning Games for Kids. The photographs are gorgeous, the directions clear, and the ideas engaging.

I love the variety of activities in the different subjects of reading, writing, math, science, art, music and global studies.

One of the many fun activities we’ve done from the book is an addition activity called 25 Squish.

The activity 25 Squish is a fun way to give kids a tactile, hands-on way of addition.

Supplies:

die
play doh
string
paper and pencil

Directions:

  1. Roll the die.
  2. Get your first number. Write down the number on your paper. Make that number of play doh balls in your string area.

3. Get your second number. Roll the die again. Write the number in an addition sentence. Make that number of play doh balls.

4. Next, add your two numbers together. To do this squish each ball and count. One, two, three, and so forth.
