Yesterday I sat in on my daughter’s 5th grade lunch writing club while her teacher explained NaNoWriMo — National Novel Writing Month — for kids! The kids can’t wait to start writing. Because every day of November, they’ll be writing toward an amazing goal: a novel!

Prepare for NaNoWriMo
Decide what you’re going to write about before November 1. Use Hatch’s Plot Bank if you need ideas or try one of these 50 ways to get ideas for NaNoWriMo.

A previous winner shares how she outlines with the Snowflake Method and recommends character and plot worksheets. (A tad bit of language.)
Another writer suggests going to the forums, using character worksheets, and using Write Your Novel in a Month and any book by Writer’s Digest. Oh, and check out videos on YouTube!
And finally, the key is to write A LOT and not edit. (No editing yet anyway. Wait until you’re done.)
