Last night, we hosted a “Reading Under the Stars” mother-daughter book club as a part of the Scholastic’s Summer Reading Under the Stars Challenge.

(We were hoping to be outside most of the night but unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate until later.)

book club discussion

JJ wrote questions that she asked the group to discuss about the book she picked for us to read, The Familiars by Adam Jay Epstein and Andres Jacobson.

The kids made their own magical animal familiars and shared those with the group – talk about cool and creative ideas!

Then each mother-daughter pair worked on a fun treasure hunt for prizes!

The bags of goodies included EVEREADY® flashlights, EVEREADY® batteries, animal keychains, bookmarks, and more!

To make things even more fun, we grabbed yummy snacks and headed outside with our new flashlights (and headlamps.)

Next time, another girl will host the book club. She’ll get to pick the book and plan the discussion questions.

I’m really excited to finish Lori Day’s new and fabulous book, Her Next Chapter: How Mother Daughter Book Clubs Can Help Girls Navigate Malicious Media, Risky Relationships, Girl Gossip, and So Much More, to help us! Since Lori recommends tons of books, we’ll have the moms get a turn to pick out books, too.
