Last summer I got a Slackers slackline (affiliate link) for the girls thinking core strength would be good for everyone. What I didn’t plan on was it being so much FUN and it being the kids’ favorite backyard activity for months and months and months. (And still going strong!)
Slackline for Kids
The slackline stretches between two trees like a tightrope but is stretchy and bouncy. You can ratchet the line so it fits the distance. We also use the guided teaching line above so the kids can hold on when they lose their balance.
The kids love to walk across the sideways, backwards, and frontwards – balancing and holding on both. To minimize the bounce, an adult can sit on one end of the line.
The only rule we have is that big sister can’t bounce the line while younger kids are on.
Sometimes it’s nice just to rest. Well, rest and bounce, of course.
Also, it’s easy to set up and take down — which we do weekly for lawn mowing.
Gibbon Slackline has some cool slackline videos.
Here’s an intro video for kids:
We are SOLD on the slackline. Not only is it building up muscles, coordination, and core strength — it’s like a siren’s song calling my kids outside to play.
What do you think — would you want a slackline for kids in your backyard, too?
Or how about trying your own backyard obstacle course?
