Easter books for kids

Even better, give a book as one of your child’s Easter basket stuffers! Or, choose a book about spring

Easter is a religious spring holiday that Christians celebrate to remember Jesus’s resurrection day.

Throughout the years, it’s also become a secular holiday with spring-related traditions of the Easter bunny, egg hunts, chocolates, baby animals, Easter baskets, and dying colorful eggs. My kids love dying eggs. Every year, we try different dying and coloring methods.

Along with all the fun Easter activities, you will also want to read Easter books.

Christian Easter Books

The Easter Story by Patricia Pingry
We read this Easter book for kids when my children were little. It shares some basic information about Jesus’ life as well as his death and resurrection. It’s a kid-friendly introduction to Jesus in a sturdy board book. Even simpler is The Story of Easter by the same author.

Ready, Set Find EASTER
Learn the basic Biblical Easter story, then find the hidden items on each page. For example, when Jesus has supper with his friends, you’ll look for a sack, candle, bread, grapes, cat, cat, head covering, and a pitcher and cup. Large, sturdy tabs help little fingers turn each page. Vibrant art plus a well-summarized story.

Come Celebrate Easter Sticker & Activity Book (The Beginner’s Bible) by Zonerkidz
I really love the Beginner’s Bible series and this full-color sticker book is fantastic for its kid-friendly language and illustrations. Kids get to read, color, take quizzes, answer questions, write, and use stickers to interact with the Easter story starting with Jesus going to Jerusalem. Related to this is The Beginner’s Bible, The Very First Easter.

The Easter Story for Children by Max Lucado
I haven’t read this myself, but it looks like an illustrated retelling of the Easter story meant for children ages 5 and up.

The bunny argues with the narrator that just because someone is a bunny, wears a bow tie and vest, and buys eggs and candy, it doesn’t mean that the bunny is the Easter Bunny. (Really?) Hilarious dialogue ensues, and we are convinced the bunny is the Easter Bunny. But, the narrator believes the bunny’s arguments and agrees to leave the bunny alone. Readers will love the silliness and that they’re in on the secret.

Egg by Kevin Henkes
It’s not specifically about Easter, but this is a lovely, sweet, beautiful, and heart-warming story about an egg. We love this story about a unique hen named Pauline. When she’s laying an egg, it becomes the pattern of whatever she is looking at. For example, the sky, a ladybug, and a quilt pattern.
