Affiliate Links Family game night just got a whole lot better with Educational Insight’s new games Kitten Caboodle and Diggity Dogs for preschool age kids and older. We own Kitten Caboodle whose object (like Diggity Dogs) is to adopt the most pets. My kids and their friends absolutely love playing it and like I said, it’s a favorite family game and perfect for animal lovers.

And have you heard the good news about family game night? It makes kids better students says a recent article in The Atlantic because they’re “educational tools in disguise.”

“Dr. Bill Hudenko, child psychologist and assistant professor of psychiatry at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine, uses board games in his practice to diagnose and strengthen these much-touted executive function skills. He also encourages parents to play these games with their children at home.”

Of course, if your kids are like mine, not only do they want to use this game for family game night, they’ll want to take use cats for imaginative play time as well. Which one would be your child’s favorite?

Kitten Caboodle Game

Playing Kitten Caboodle

1. 2-4 players are dealt 2 cards each.

2. Players take turns asking other players for the cards they need. Your goal is to get the right supplies on cards that each pet needs so you can adopt that pet. For example, to adopt Fergie, you need to get the cards with yarn, a cat bed, and milk.  (see photo below.)

3. If you ask an anther layer for a card and the player has it, they give it to you. If they don’t have it, you draw from the pile of cards.

4. Once you have the cards you need, you can adopt a cat and turn in the correct cards. The cats are sturdy cardboard two-sided cutouts that sit on plastic stands. (You’re supposed to meow but my husband refuses to do this so now no one does. Haha.)

5. The winner of the game is the person who adopts the most cats.
