How to Plan the BEST Family Game Night Ever

We’re HUGE family game night people. How about you?
Toys “R”Us, Hasbro and Duracell are teaming up with me here at Imagination Soup to celebrate family game night. Not only is it lots of fun and a fabulous way to teach kids skills and cooperation, it’s a great way to connect with each other away from technology and busy schedules.
Now that it’s summer vacation, make family game night a weekly event. Here are six tips to get you started.
1. Lots of games
Get out your favorite games. Good games are like good books — they’re must haves.
We have an entire closet dedicated to games. They’re organized on shelves so we can grab and go.
Toys “R” Us is a great one-stop shop to pick up your favorite summer games if you’re looking to add to your collection.
2. Play outside
It’s both warm and light enough to play games outside. When it gets dark, use candles, flashlights, or your porch lights for extra fun.
3. Snacks
We usually include snacks like popcorn or ice cream for game night.
What are your favorite snacks for game night?
4. Kids pick
Each kid gets to pick a favorite game to play. Plan enough time to play each child’s game.
Here, we were playing CandyLand. About 6 million times. The kids loved this newest version with a spinner and without cards.
(I still can’t figure out how the kids always beat us. We’re not trying to lose. Is it a conspiracy?)
5. Extra Duracell batteries
If you have battery operated games, be sure to have plenty of fresh batteries, like Duracell Quantum, on hand. (Easily found at Toys “R” Us.)
Did you know that Duracell Quantum batteries:
o Have Hi-Density Core™ Technology for unbeatable long-lasting power
o Only battery with PowerCheck™. Instantly check your power level at any time
o Have Duralock Power Preserve™ Technology. Guaranteed for 10 years in storage
6. Go with the flow
As dusk fell, my girls got wiggly. They raced to the backyard slackline to play in-between turns. That was okay. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. When the kids need to move, or start getting cranky, we let them wander off and wrap up the game night.
To get you going on your own family game night, I’m giving away $50 to Toys “R” Us and a packet of Duracell Quantum batteries! Good luck, I hope you win!!
