Creativity and Julia Child

August 15, Julia Child would have celebrated her 100th birthday– Happy Birthday to her!

Her legacy, teaching us how to cook French food and enjoy the dining experience, lives on in her cookbooks, her memoir, and at the Smithsonian. Yes, Child donated her entire kitchen to the Smithsonian.

Learn how to cook– try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all, have a good time.”
– Julia Child

Sounds like the conditions for creativity to me!

“I don’t think about whether people will remember me or not. I’ve been an okay person. I’ve learned a lot. I’ve taught people a thing or two. That’s what’s important.”
– Julia Child

Children’s Books About Julia Child

The newly published children’s picture book, Minette’s Feast by Susanna Reich, illustrated by Amy Bates, shares the story of Julia’s life in Paris with her husband, Paul, and her kitty, Minette. Minette’s a refined French kitty so we know that Julia’s cooking stinks if Minette refuses to eat it. But Julia takes cooking classes at Cordon Bleu, and as she transforms into an excellent cook, a cook whose food Minette will now eat. I love how this book makes Julia’s story so accessible to children – simple and fun. The author, Reich, writes a beautiful tribute to Julia Child on PBS.org.

Anther children’s book about Julia Child, which I haven’t seen, is Bon Appetit! The Delicious Life of Julia Child by Jessie Hartland.

  1. So fun! Great post! Hilarious video, but it made me hungry and want to go cook all at the same time! “Freshness is essential…bring on the roasted potatoes!”
I love being creative in the kitchen! I also love when creativity spills into other areas of my life! Thank you for sharing. Bon Apetit!
