Are you enjoying the summer’s moments? My two-week tech break wasn’t totally successful but, I did cut way back. And, in the process, I found more opportunities to be present with my kids, my husband, and my friends. To just breathe. Listen. Be.
Lately, I’ve been leaving my phone at home, turning off my emails during the day, spending the first moments of the morning with a cup of coffee and centering my thinking about the day. My goal is to be mindful, present (not distracted) in the day’s moments.
I wonder about you. Do you find that mindfulness is an intention, too?
“Stillness, insight, and wisdom arise only when we can settle into being complete in this moment, without having to seek or hold on to or reject anything.”
If you and your kids want to practice mindfulness, you might like the Buddha Board. The Buddha Board is a board you paint with water and a thick calligraphy paintbrush. Because it’s water, the image is temporary.
It might take some time to get used to — because you can’t cling to it, you can’t keep your art, it’s a moment of time and then it’s gone. Don’t freak out – try it. See what it brings up for you.
You can also try it on the Buddha Board website.
What happens for you when you or your kids watch the art fade? How does it feel?
“Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
“Be present in all things and thankful for all things.”
“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.”
Wishing you a peace that comes from savoring each moment.
