Fashion Design for Kids With Rosie Flo and Yves Saint Laurent

Kids love to design and create. We’ve been experiencing fashion design here at the Taylor house with a visit to the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit at the Denver Art Museum and playing with Rosie Flo’s Coloring Fashion Show.

Rosie Flo

Rosie Flo Coloring Fashion Show, from Chronicle Books, is a coloring paper doll pop-up theater extravaganza, including a runway with spectator seating. The mom behind the book is artist and designer, Roz Streeten whose daughters loved when she would draw them dresses to color. She also makes the Johnny Joe’s and Rosie Flo’s coloring books.

My daughter, JJ, loves to design fashion – I think we’ve gone through all the available Fashion Angels stencil and doll kits. So, you can imagine how absorbed she was with Rosie Flo dresses which she colored and added on heads and hair. The dolls were nice and thick so markers didn’t bleed through. Here’s what she’s done so far.

You can enter to win a Rosie Flo Fashion Show – see details below.

Yves Saint Laurent

The Denver Art Museum is hosting amazing exhibit in fashion design which we saw over spring break – 40 years of Yves Saint Laurent. ($88 for this?) But, it turned out that we got our money’s worth afterwards because when we left the gallery, we entered an interactive design studio just for kids. There we spent a wonderful time designing and imagining with hands-on activities.

Light Table

Two rows of light tables sat waiting for kids to trace, color, design, and imagine.

Design a Dress

Dress dummies surrounded a carousel of enticing fabrics in soft, bumpy, silky colors, patterns, and designs. My kids learned how to drape and pin to create a dress.

Design Small Dresses

The design studio also had small dummies with fabric, ribbons, and lace for more fashion design magic!

Kudos to the Denver Art Museum for making the exhibit so fun and interactive for kids.

One winner will be chosen at random to win Rosie Flo Fashion Studio valued at $16.99.
