Why You Need a Microscope at Home

Yes, you do need a microscope at home. Because the benefits are learning and discovery.

Benefits of Owning a Microscope

1. Encourages discovery.

2. Teaches kids about scientific hypothesis.

3. Hones observational skills.

4. Develops a love of the natural world.

5. Helps with a child’s love of science.

6. It’s FUN!

7. It’s real – it’s the world.

8. It’s hands-on and engages a child’s senses and all different learning styles – auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. (Auditory if you’re discussing.)

MicroPro Microscope

Thanks to Educational Insights blogger program, we have been using Educational Insight’s MicroPro Microscope. Not only do we investigate the included pre-made slides, but we make our own slides (materials included to make slides) and investigate other things, too — like the leaf. Somethings, like rocks, my kids learned, cannot be seen.

Why not?

And here in lies the learning.

Good question. Let’s figure it out.

You can download the microscope project guide here for suggested activities.

So what can you view under a microscope?

  • dead bugs
  • food
  • dirt
  • fingernail clippings
  • dry skin
  • plants
  • water – clean, dirty, soapy, river
  • anything that you can cut thin enough to see!

This was a good reminder. I liked you on Facebook. I thought I already had after I’ve been following your wonderful posts for a while now.

A microscope was on my Christmas wish list when I was a child. For a child that loved bugs and nature treasures, it was one of my best gifts ever.

I like you on FB. My husband and I were just discussing last night how we felt our daughter (5) was ready for a microscope and how beneficial it would be for her growth and development. We would be overjoyed to win this!

We have always wanted a microscope for our
program. We are a reggio emilia program and feel our students would greatly benefit having a microscope to use in the learning environment as well as outdoors. Terra Tominelli~Founder
