The great philosopher, Dr. Seuss, once wrote, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.“
In honor of his wise words, I present to you my list of the best, most impressive, newly published picture books of spring 2011. I love and recommend them all!

I’d like to read Doodleday, Rapunzel (the illustrations look wonderful), and Tallulah’s Tutu.
In addition to loving this list above, my 2 newest favorite picture books are:
The Boy Who Cried Ninja by Alex Latimer
I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll

My faves have been:
Seven Fathers retold by Ashley Ramsden, illustrated by Ed Young (very spiritual for kids who wonder about the afterlife!)
Mali Under the Night Sky: A Lao Story of Home by Youme (an uplifting and universal refugee’s story appropriate for preschool and elementary school)
The Day Tiger Rose Said Goodbye by Jane Yolen (for any one whose pet had died)
These all look really good! I’m more familiar with older picture books, so it’s great to see that there are still nice storybooks being published nowadays. Out of all of these, Tallulah’s Tutu interests me the most. The illustrations for look gorgeous, and I was a huge fan of Angelina Ballerina as a kid so anything ballet-related gets me nostalgic.

It was lovely to read that you’ve chosen my book YOU’RE MEAN LILY JEAN s one of your spring 2011 favorites.
I need to write more about it – I really love how it models handling a typical situation that happens every day. It’s great!
It’s interesting to see a list like this, but it would be even MORE interesting if you said a little something about each book–just a paragraph or so–so we would know why a particular book is on the list.
I agree – next time I will. Did you see my extensive list on Babble with my thoughts on each of the 100 best books of all time? http://www.babble.com/products/kids-products/best-kids-books-by-age-back-to-school-guide/
