ENDED A work of art in a teaching clock

Congratulations to Colleen!  Random.org picked you as the winner of this contest!

I admit it.  My daughter is in the second grade and not telling time.  At all. I’ve tried practice clocks.  Talking clocks.  Worksheets.  A clock game.  Nothing seemed to help.

So, I tried labeling the minutes by 5s with sticky notes.

But, she still kept getting confused between the hour and the minutes.

Then, I got this from Schon Art and a spark of understanding ignited.

See the minutes?  They are all numbered.  See how the pink matches the pink bedroom wall that matches the pink everything else?  Pretty and inspirational.

Guess what happened?  My almost 8 year old is telling time like a champ now!!  This is in her room and we use it all the time.  And,  Schon Art sent us a practice clock that looks the same but is paper w/ no battery for practice fun.  Love it!

Want one for your house?  Go to Schon Art to see the design choices, then leave a comment here and tell me which design you would like to win.  Contest runs until December 11, 2009.

My son is so interested in telling time, but have also had a hard time…love the paper clock idea…these clocks are so cool. Love the frogs and the retro blue and brown one.

  2. OMG! I’m so glad you wrote this post. Ava is struggling with telling time as well. I would love to have one of these clocks for her.
We like the pink swirly hearts or the mardi gras purple.

I would love to win the Blue Red Lizard clock for my third grade inclusion classroom! In our school, they switched to all digital clocks, and instead of leaving the analog clocks next to them so the students could see the two different ways to tell the time, they pulled all the analogs! Now, we have a third grade class who can’t tell time – always a few questions about that on the spring state testing, too! Thanks! Great web site, always with useful ideas.
