Preschool Ideas

• Christmas or Hanukkah alphabet book.  Fold 14 pieces of paper in half to make a book.  Staple.  Write the letters of the alphabet on each page.  Give your child Christmas books to look through and find pictures that start with each letter.  Draw the picture and write the word (with help) on the appropriate letter’s page.  Christmas words here and an ABC Coloring Book printable here.
• Write a letter to Santa.  Ask for help with the words or cut out pictures from the newspaper ads to glue onto the letter.

Elementary Ideas

• Gingerbread dog or cat story.  Read the gingerbread boy story together.  Substitute your pet as the main character.  Retell with that character and invent fun experiences for your gingerbread pet.  Write the story using transitions like first, second, third, then, next.  Focus on sequencing.  Leave room on your pages for illustrations if desired.  Bonus gingerbread shape book here.
• Write a letter to Santa.  Either write a list of what you want OR use your best persuasive skills to convince Santa you should get what you ask for.  So, ask for the thing and give three good reasons why you should get it.
• Christmas  or Hanukkah poem.  Use your 5 senses to write a Christmas Poem.  Christmas feels like . . . smells like . . . tastes like . . . looks like . . . sounds like . . .
