(4 year old's) You really have to hear this elaborate story – watch out for the mean plane!

I love kids’ maps, both of real and imaginary places.

Here are a few examples of my daughters’ map making.  We had such fun!

Your kids can create all sorts of wonderful 2-D maps with paper and markers like . . .

- treasure maps

- maps of the neighborhood

- maps for a story they’re writing

- maps of the house

- maps of dinosaur bones in the sand box

- maps to the library or playground

You can help your child label the places on the map, or follow the map in search of –

3-D maps like . . .

- Mazes through the pillows

-Block towns

-Recycled junk towns

Have fun!  And, if you want extra credit, teach your child the word “cartographer” = map maker.

Ha! I remember drawing maps a child! It really was a trip I made in my mind and uses a lot of imagination – so good for kids!

I loved making maps when I was a kid. We’d make treasure maps and strategically rip the edges, soak them in tea and put them in the oven till they dried. I must still have one somewhere – just waiting for The Goonies to find it :D
